Institute of Business Economics

Institute of Business Economics

The Institute of Business Economics is an academic institution focusing on research and education on three areas of business studies: business economics, decision sciences and value creating processes. We are responsible for teaching undergraduate, graduate, PhD and postgraduate courses and conduct research projects. Our team of colleagues shares two common aspects in their scholarly approach an executive angle and a stakeholder view.

We seek cooperation with Hungarian and international academic, governmental and non-governmental institutions, and enterprises for knowledge creation and development.

The Institute was founded in 2005 as the successor of the Department of Business Economics, which was founded in 1988 and chaired by Attila Chikán until 1998. Mihály Gálik chaired the Department between 1998 and 2001, and was followed by Erzsébet Czakó. She has been Director of the Institute since 2005.

Based on the teaching and research competences of the former Department of Business Economics, three departments and a research center were founded as parts of the Institute.

  • Department of Decision Sciences is chaired by Zita Zoltay-Paprika
  • Department of Logistics and Supply Chain Management is chaired by Krisztina Demeter
  • Department of Business Studies is chaired by Krisztina Andras.
  • Competitiveness Research Center is lead by Attila Chikán as Director.

The Institute is in close connection with enterprises and executives in Hungary. This is supported by the Scientific Association of Business Economics and the Foundation for Research and Education in Business Economics. They have a leading role in extending our relations towards the enterprises in Hungary.

Daily operations of the Institute are supported by a Secretariat. It is lead by Andrea Blaskó, general secretary, Zsuzsanna Gábriel, Krisztina Kulcsár and Szilvia Varga provide assistance to both academics and students.
